Project Highlight: 272 Hedges Avenue

Baxta Engineered Coatings is proud to be supplying paint products for the 272 Hedges Avenue project, well underway in Mermaid Beach. This project is set to become the ultimate Gold Coast residential experience, with 44 storeys rising above spectacular Gold Coast beaches including 97, two, three and four-bedroom apartments, sky homes and penthouses.

The architects were looking for paint products to complement the site’s environment, an abundance of natural beauty from pristine beaches to sprawling parklands and only moments away from the vibrant dining precincts of Broadbeach.

Here at Baxta, we specify systems, not products. The stunning interior was made possible thanks to Baxta low VOC systems. We also worked closely with the project builders, Hutchinson Builders, to adapt Baxta systems for pre-primed metal door frames in coastal areas to overcome rusting problems commonly experienced with coastal builds.

For the ceilings, Baxta provided three coats of Baxta Prep and Ceiling. For the walls, we specified one coat of Baxta Prep and Ceiling followed by two coats of Baxta Xero Plus Low Sheen. The clean finish on the doors and skirting boards was achieved using one coat of Baxta Sealer Undercoat and two coats of Baxta AcraTrim Satin. Pre-primed door frames were achieved with one coat of Epinamel DTM 985 and two coats of Poly U 630.

We also worked closely with Hutchinson Builders to create a system on the soffits, helping to prevent water and salt from penetrating the substrate. This system was comprised of one coat each of Ardex WPM300, Baxta Concrete Patch, Baxta Sahara Fine and Baxta Maxicap Elastomeric.

The coat of Ardex WPM300 acts as a waterproofing barrier, whilst Baxta Concrete Patch provides a smooth level finish and Baxta Sahara Fine creates a sand paint finish. Finally, Baxta Maxicap Elastomeric was applied to prevent moisture from entering and assist in the anti-carbonation protection of the substrate. This product also provides a flexible coating over areas that may develop minor cracking.

The balcony walls were completed using a system of one coat of Baxta Concrete Solvent Primer, two coats of Baxta Sahara Fine, and one coat of Baxta Maxi Cap Elastomeric for final touches.

With such intricate and thought-out paint systems, 272 Hedges Avenue will no doubt be an envious build that complements the stunning Gold Coast region.
