Project Highlight: Queen Street Village

Work is well underway on the exciting Queen Street Village project in Southport!

This project is currently one of the biggest single projects in south-east Queensland, the former Gold Coast Hospital site set to become a vibrant mixed-use lifestyle development that includes a range of urban land uses from retail to cinema and residences.

We are so proud to be supplying Baxta specified systems for both the interior and exterior paint works on this incredible build. Baxta General Manager, Bob Matthews, said the magnitude of this project made specifying systems quite the challenge.

“It was difficult to put together internal specification systems that would cover a number of different businesses including a medical centre, child care centre, theatre, tavern and supermarket to name a few.

“I’m proud to say we were able to put together paint systems that are not only aesthetically diversified but hard-wearing, easy to clean, mould resistant and contain low VOC,” he said.

For the interior ceilings, we specified three coats of Baxta Prep and Ceiling. For the walls, one coat of Baxta Prep and Ceiling followed by two coats of Baxta Xero Low Sheen. For doors and trims, we provided one coat of Baxta Sealer Undercoat and two coats of Baxta AcraTrim.

Much like the interior, this exterior posed its own challenges with a number of different substrates coming into play, including steel columns, FC sheet, block, off form concrete and precast panel. By curating unique Baxta systems, we were able to ensure the various substrates finished with the same clean appearance.

For the FC sheeting, one coat of Baxta Prep and Patch was applied to mesh joins, followed by one coat of Baxta Sealer Undercoat and two coats of Baxta Maxicap Elastomeric. For precast panels, we specified one coat of Baxta Concrete Solvent Primer and two coats of Baxta Maxicap Elastomeric.

The block walls required one coat of Baxta Screeded Level Render, one coat of Baxta CovaCoat Primer and two coats of Baxta Maxicap Elastomeric. For the off form concrete surfaces, we specified one coat each of Baxtabond Key Coat, Baxta Screeded Level Render, Baxta CovaCoat Primer and Baxta Maxicap Elastomeric.

Finally, concrete surfaces utilised one coat of Baxta Concrete Solvent Primer and two coats of Baxta Maxicap Elastomeric.

Here at Baxta Engineered Coatings, we are proud to be helping bolster Southport as a place where people can work, live and play through the implementation of this incredible build!
